war on plastic (4): not good enough @flora

green dotSun 11 Aug 19: maybe we all know that margarine tubs are made of polypropylene and cannot be recycled. That’s bad news in its own right but the absence of any recycling info on a tub of Flora is bad news. This is compounded by showing the Green Dot which does NOT necessarily mean that the packaging can be recycled. It is a symbol used on packaging in many European countries and merely signifies that the producer has made a contribution towards the recycling of packaging.

On its pack Flora says it is ‘committed to sustainable palm oil’ which is good but avoids telling us that its packaging is a single use plastic and offers not advice about how it can be recycled. The Green Dot is an unfortunate obfuscation.  It’s website is remarkably free of any specific advice.
