Fri 16 Nov 19: from my diary ‘It’s a traditional pub: half timbered building, low beams and a range of real ales. But it’s also got a proper coffee machine, a perfectly acceptable wine list and a menu which is more gastro than pub grub. And although it is a pub and not a restaurant there is table service and the operation runs with quiet efficiency with just the landlord and one other.’
‘I order a shin of beef stew with a double helping of veg after mildly berating the landlord for offering buttery mashed potatoes and no (low sat fat) boiled option. Given the size of his girth he would seem to have a vested interest in healthy options! I enjoy a 125ml glass of Chilean Merlot and finish my meal with an espresso.’
